The Chancellor of the Exchequer this week gave his Pre-Budget Report to the House of Commons in which he outlined a series of tax cuts to boost the economy. There were a few high points for businesses, such as in the deferment of the small business rate of corporation tax and allowing businesses to spread out the payment of their tax bill.
In the world of education and training, the Chancellor promised greater provision of pre-redundancy re-training through Train to Gain, and said the government will target the successful Local Employment Partnerships not just on the harder to reach groups, but also on the short-term unemployed. He also announced a National Employment Partnership to tackle rising unemployment. This will be chaired by the Prime Minister and involve 20 large employers including Tesco, Centrica and Royal Mail.
But do you think Brown went far enough in his help for business? How badly is the recession hitting you? What impact has it had on your recruitment and retention of staff?
