Desperately seeking stardom or a real desire to learn?

If you read a lot into recent media articles, you’re probably of the opinion that all young people want to be singers, actors and reality TV stars. However, it appears that nothing could be further from the truth in Nottinghamshire.

Every month, we take a snapshot of our database of unemployed young people to see what work areas young people are interested in. This isn’t the whole picture as some young people aren’t registered with us as unemployed – they may already be in work or college and are using our vacancy site to look for work. However, the stats still give us an idea of the types of jobs young people are interested in.

For Nottinghamshire teens, the top three work areas are Retail, Construction and Engineering/Motor Vehicle. They're also interested in a range of other jobs, including Business Administration, Finance, IT, Healthcare, Hospitality & Catering, Land Based/animal Care and Hair and Beauty. At the end of November, there were 1018 young people registered as NEET in Nottinghamshire. The breakdown is:
688 City and Conurbation
174 Mansfield and Ashfield
71   Newark and Sherwood
85 Bassetlaw.

Good to know Connexions keeps an eye on who’s looking for work - but where are they? We advertised a job couplke of months ago for an office junior but got a rubbish response - nobody was suitable. We’re still trying to recruit - can you help?
