employability
Well it’s that time of year again when young people across Nottinghamshire have left school armed with their exam results and, if they haven’t already continued in education or learning, will be looking for employment.
Every year, thousands of young people leave full-time education. Many will have their future planned out and will be set to continue in learning and training. For others, it’s time to embrace the job market.
Currently, Connexions Nottinghamshire has over 1,000 young people in the city and county registered as looking for employment. So it seems there is no better time to recruit some young, fresh talent. After all, what better opportunity do you have to employ a young person to train, skill up and mould into the model employee.
Perhaps you disagree? After all, if you buy into the image of young people the media portray, perhaps you think this is the time to steer clear and leave Nottinghamshire's young people to their binge drinking and their asbos. Perhaps you’ve had a negative experience of employing a school leaver?
But for every badly behaved young person, there are literally thousands of talented and dedicated young people in our county leaving school this year.
At this time of year, every year, Connexions Nottinghamshire aims to ensure that every young person in the county who's leaving school goes into education, employment and training.
This can’t be done without the support of employers in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County. And if we want to develop as a county and encourage economic growth, perhaps it’s time for all of us to invest in our young people - our county’s future.
What are your experiences of recruiting young people? What extra support would you like to help you arrange training for your young employees? What expectations do you have of 2008 school leavers?
