Applying for jobs – are you impressed?

Over the last few months, young people about to leave full time education and those already available for work or training, have been making thousands of job applications to employers. In July alone, Connexions Central Vacancy Unit handled over 900 online application forms.
But it occurs to me that, with around 1000 young people on our current unemployed lists, are young people making the right impression?
Along with schools, Connexions offers support to young people with their job applications. We offer individual help and we’ve also developed resources to highlight “top tips” in completing application forms. BUT… we know young people don’t always get it right.
Have you had recent experience of receiving application forms from young people? Where do they go wrong? We’d welcome your views and how you think young people can improve their chances of getting a job.
This will help us to strengthen the advice we give to young people and give feedback to schools on what employers expect from young people.

Am I impressed?  Not really. As I said on a post to another article, I’ve received a lot of applications over the last year in which young people have substituted English for text speak.

Perhaps Connexons Personal Advisers can help young people understand that this is not acceptable to most employers?
